St.Jude’s Church, Chundale

The church was founded in 1925 to serve Catholic workers from the local tea plantations. Its completion in 1953 marked the end of a long building process that extended construction across more than two decades.

The interior walls display paintings by Brother Angelo Bignami showing Jesuit Saints and scenes from the life of Saint Jude Thaddaeus. These artworks shape how visitors experience the prayer space and connect the community to its religious heritage.

The location is best reached on foot, and visitors should expect a quiet rural setting with few crowds. Respectful dress is important, especially during or near times of religious services or community gatherings.

Engineering contractor T. M. D'Cruz received papal recognition for his work on the church, a rare honor for a layperson from that era. This acknowledgment speaks to the craftsmanship and personal dedication that went into the building's construction.
