Santo Stefano Rotondo, Minor basilica in Monti district, Rome, Italy

The circular building features twenty-two marble columns surrounding a central altar, with two concentric walkways creating a harmonious circular pattern.

Consecrated between 468 and 483 by Pope Simplicius, the church underwent major renovations in 1453 when Pope Nicholas V reduced its original diameter.

The peripheral walls display thirty-four frescoes known as the Cycle of Martyrdom, painted by Pomarancio and Matteo da Siena in 1582.

The basilica opens to visitors through a portico with five arches supported by ancient granite columns topped with Corinthian capitals.

Archaeological excavations revealed a second-century Mithraeum in the basement, containing preserved decorations with false marble inlays from Roman times.
