Sant’Ilario, Residential quarter in eastern Genoa, Italy.
Sant'Ilario is a residential quarter in eastern Genoa that stretches between inland hills and the Mediterranean coastline. The neighborhood combines suburban residential areas with views of rocky formations and small pebble beaches along its waterfront.
The area was an independent municipality called Sant'Ilario Ligure until 1926, when it was incorporated into Genoa's expanding boundaries. This merger marked the end of its municipal independence and its transformation into a city-integrated neighborhood.
Villa Luxoro, constructed in 1903, functions as a museum containing paintings and antiques, preserving the memory of Giannettino Luxoro.
The quarter is well connected by tram and bus, situated about a 30-minute walk from central Genoa. The residential areas have a mixed character with older and newer buildings, so visitors encounter different environments depending on which part they explore.
The local cemetery holds the graves of notable figures such as actor Bartolomeo Pagano and poet Edoardo Firpo. The burial ground also features a World War I memorial that honors those lost during the conflict.
