Lake of Beauregard, Artificial reservoir in Valgrisenche, Italy
Lake of Beauregard is a reservoir in Valgrisenche at roughly 1,700 meters elevation in the Aosta Valley mountains. The water is held back by an arch dam about 132 meters high, creating a long narrow body of water between steep mountain slopes.
The dam was built in 1957 and required the relocation of seven communities from the area. Villages such as Beauregard, Sevey, and Suplun were flooded to complete the water engineering project.
The dam has become woven into the valley's landscape and shapes how the region appears today. Visitors can see along its shores how local people use the area and what role this structure plays in everyday life.
The reservoir is reachable by simple paths, though it offers limited tourist facilities in the immediate area. Visitors should expect changeable mountain weather and bring appropriate clothing and footwear.
The dam surface features a climbing wall where experienced mountaineers train. This unusual feature makes the site a draw for climbers despite its reduced water storage capacity.
