Arazzeria Scassa, Tapestry manufactory in Borgo San Pietro, Asti, Italy
Arazzeria Scassa is a textile workshop operating in a restored 12th-century monastery building at the edge of Asti. The operation produces large-scale wall tapestries by hand using classical high-warp looms.
The company was founded in the 1950s and gained international attention early on through commissions for notable ships. Since then it has established itself as a specialized maker of artistic textiles in Italy.
The workshop collaborates with designs from well-known artists and transforms them into hand-woven tapestries. Craftspeople on-site use traditional techniques to bring artworks to life in textile form.
The atelier is located in a historic building outside the city center and is best reached by car. Visits are possible but require advance notice to avoid disrupting the active workshop.
Some tapestries take several years to complete as each thread is individually hand-woven into place. This lengthy process makes each piece a rare art object that only highly skilled craftspeople can produce.
