Santa Caterina

Santa Caterina is a Baroque church in Verona featuring a monumental stone facade decorated with numerous statues, including Saint Teresa positioned above the main entrance. The interior consists of a single nave covered by a barrel vault and lit by lateral windows that create natural illumination throughout the space.

Construction of the church began in 1563 following the relocation of nuns from their former monastery situated outside Verona's defensive walls. The move was required by regulations imposed by the Venetian Republic at that time.

The church is named after Saint Catherine and displays artwork telling her story through painted scenes on the interior walls. These religious images were created by local artists and remain visible to visitors today.

The church is located on Via Marconi between Porta Palio and Corso Porta Nuova, making it easy to reach on foot. Natural light from the side windows illuminates the interior best during daylight hours, so visiting during the day is advisable.

The interior is decorated with eleven oil paintings depicting scenes from Saint Catherine's life, created by local artists such as Biagio Falcieri. These works showcase different moments and serve as important examples of artistic skill from that era.
