Spiaggia Monte Cofano

Spiaggia Monte Cofano, Beach at Monte Cofano Reserve, Cornino, Italy.

Spiaggia Monte Cofano is a white sand beach stretching around 500 meters (1,600 feet) along the Mediterranean coast, framed by limestone cliffs and the mountain that rises behind. The shoreline curves gently and meets rocky underwater formations that extend into deeper waters.

The site became part of Monte Cofano Nature Reserve in 1981, created to protect both the natural landscape and traditional fishing methods in the Trapani region. This conservation effort marked a turning point in recognizing the value of the coastal environment.

Local fishermen shape the character of this place through their ongoing practices and connection to the sea. The abandoned Tonnara di Cofano, a former tuna processing facility nearby, stands as a reminder of generations devoted to fishing along this coast.

Wooden walkways make access easier throughout the beach area, and paid parking is available right at the entrance. The protected status of the reserve means visitors should stay on marked paths and respect any posted restrictions.

Scientific research teams regularly study the underwater world here, where numerous Mediterranean fish species thrive in waters over rocky seabeds. The contrast between shallow coastal zones and deeper waters creates rich habitats that support this marine life.
