Yubiso Station, Railway station in Minakami, Japan
Yubiso Station is a small railway station in Minakami with two platforms located at different levels: one sits above ground while the other lies within the Shin-Shimizu Tunnel. The station connects two different rail routes along the Joetsu Line.
The station was established by the Ministry of Railways in September 1931 as a stop on the Joetsu Line. East Japan Railway Company took over its operation following the privatization of Japanese National Railways in 1987.
The station building reflects Japanese design principles through its concrete structure and minimalist tunnels, integrating with the surrounding natural environment of Gunma Prefecture.
The station operates without staff on site and sees relatively few passengers each day, offering visitors a quiet experience. Travelers should note that the two platforms serve different train routes with limited schedules.
The station features an unusual design with a monolithic entrance and tunnel sections carved into the mountainside. This distinctive structure became necessary because the facility sits along a section of track that runs through challenging alpine terrain.
