Mount Shiragamon, Mountain summit in Minakami, Japan.
Mount Shiragamon rises to 1,720 meters (5,643 feet) within Joshin'etsu-kogen National Park, with multiple hiking routes crossing forested slopes and rocky passages. The trails vary in difficulty and connect different approach points, allowing visitors to choose paths based on their fitness level.
The peak earned its ranking as number 52 among the 100 Famous Mountains of Gunma, a designation recognizing significant summits across the prefecture. This classification was established to promote mountain hiking traditions in the region.
The mountain draws hikers from surrounding towns who gather at trail junctions and rest spots to share advice and observations about conditions. These informal meeting points have made the peak an important part of local outdoor culture.
The main access point is from Minakami Station, where regular bus services connect to the various trailheads throughout the climbing season. Most paths are best walked from July through November when mountain conditions are stable and routes are well-maintained.
Several informal side paths lead away from the main routes to hidden viewing spots where fewer people venture. From these quieter approaches, visitors can see neighboring peaks like Tanigawa-dake and Shigekura-take from angles that reveal their character differently than from crowded vantage points.
