Mukaigawara Station, railway station in Kawasaki, Kanagawa prefecture, Japan
Mukaigawara Station is an above-ground railway station in the Shimo-numabe area of Kawasaki, Kanagawa Prefecture. It has two platforms, one on each side of the tracks, connected by a footbridge overhead.
The station opened in 1927 under a name linked to a nearby electrical company, then was briefly renamed during the war years before returning to its current name. Freight services once ran through here but ended in the 1970s, leaving the station focused on passengers.
The name Mukaigawara refers to the location of the station within this part of Kawasaki. The signage is mostly in Japanese, giving the stop an everyday local feel that is rarely oriented toward international visitors.
The station has ramps and stairs for access, making it usable for travelers with luggage or limited mobility. The footbridge is the main way to move between platforms, so checking the direction of travel before crossing is a good idea.
Despite its modest appearance today, the station once handled freight in addition to passengers, serving the industrial activity in the surrounding area. That past leaves almost no trace now, making it easy to overlook how active this stop once was.
