Southeast Botanical Gardens, Botanical garden in Okinawa, Japan.
Southeast Botanical Gardens is a large green space in Okinawa featuring thousands of plant varieties, including many palm species and other tropical plants. The grounds are laid out clearly with wide paths for walking through the different areas.
The garden opened in 1968 and was long a place for botanical collections. A major renovation happened in 2013, which modernized and redirected the entire facility.
The gardens display plants from Okinawa alongside species from around the world, bringing together botanical knowledge from different regions. Visitors can see how local and foreign plants grow side by side, creating a picture of diversity.
The garden is easy to walk through and visitors can go on foot or use a tram to get around. Plan enough time since the grounds are large and you should move slowly through the different plant areas.
The grounds contain a lake with carp and a special collection of insects that visitors do not often see elsewhere. These elements make the place more than just a location for plants.
