Sanyo Akashi Station, railway station in Akashi, Hyogo prefecture, Japan
Sanyo Akashi Station is a railway station in Akashi, Hyogo Prefecture, serving both the JR Kobe Line and the Sanyo Electric Railway. The two lines share the same building, so passengers can transfer between them without going outside.
The station first opened in the late 19th century as part of an early railway line along the coast of Hyogo. It was later expanded to accommodate a second rail operator, and the building was rebuilt over the decades to handle more passengers.
The station sits at the center of daily movement in Akashi, where commuters, schoolchildren, and shoppers all pass through the same doors. It connects the older parts of the city near the sea with the newer residential areas inland.
Signs inside the station are in both Japanese and English, which makes it easier to find the right platform or exit. IC cards such as Icoca or Suica work at the gates, and staff at the counters can help if you are unsure about your route.
The station is just a short walk from the Akashi Municipal Fish Market, one of the most active seafood markets in western Japan. Many travelers passing through on the way to Himeji or Osaka stop here specifically to visit the market and eat at the nearby stalls.
