Ichinomiya Shrine is a Shinto sanctuary in Fukuchiyama with a main hall dating to the early 1700s. The structure displays traditional wooden architecture with a shingled roof, and the grounds contain several smaller shrine buildings dedicated to different deities.
The shrine was established in 707 according to local tradition, built to protect the land and its people. It sustained fire damage in June 2023, but the community acted quickly to restore it.
This shrine serves as a gathering place where locals mark important life events and seasonal celebrations. The community maintains deep-rooted customs passed down through generations, making it central to the town's identity.
The shrine is about 15 minutes on foot from the train station and is also served by bus. The area is quiet with few shops, making it an easy and peaceful place to visit.
A stone lantern from the Kamakura period, over 700 years old, stands within the grounds as one of the oldest stone structures in the region. The surrounding area also preserves a rare Noh theater stage from the Kamakura era where traditional Japanese drama performances take place.
