七石山横穴墓群

Nanaishi Mountain burial site contains multiple chambers carved directly into the mountainside, each one a horizontal opening leading into stone-walled burial rooms. The chambers vary in size and arrangement, reflecting differences in the social status of those interred within them.

These burial chambers were created between the 3rd and 6th centuries, a period when Japan was forming organized political structures. The timespan shows how regional powers grew stronger and funeral traditions became more standardized.

The stone workers who carved these chambers used basic tools to shape the rock with impressive precision and skill. Despite the simple techniques, the chambers have survived over 1500 years and remain clearly visible today.
