Maioka Park, Urban park in Yokohama, Japan.
Maioka Park is a large urban green space in Yokohama with woodlands, rice paddies, and multiple walking paths. The area features ponds where more than 100 bird species can be observed, and includes a historical residence from the Meiji period that now serves as an educational center.
The park was created to preserve traditional farming within a growing urban city. A residence built in 19th-century style was relocated to the site in 1995 and now demonstrates historical agricultural methods to visitors.
Volunteers lead workshops where visitors learn traditional farming methods and participate in seasonal activities like rice planting. These hands-on experiences connect city residents with agricultural practices that have shaped rural life for generations.
The area is easy to reach by public transport: about 20 minutes on foot from Maioka Subway Station, or by bus from Totsuka Station. Wear comfortable shoes since many paths go through natural areas and across fields.
The site is maintained by trained local volunteers who continuously care for both the natural environment and farming techniques. This community involvement keeps the place alive and shows how residents work together to preserve a piece of land.
