內田三連橋樑, Historic brick arch bridge in Aka Village, Japan
The Uchida Triple Bridge is a brick arch structure consisting of three connected arches spanning 17 meters in length. The building displays cut stone facing on the upstream side and textured brickwork on the downstream side, designed to accommodate future expansion.
The structure was built in 1895 by the Toyoshu Railway Company to expand coal transportation in the Chikuho region. It was part of a larger infrastructure development that supported economic activity in the area.
The structure shows different craftsmanship details that reveal how engineers worked in the 19th century. The contrasts between the upstream and downstream sides make clear that the construction was planned with thought and care.
The structure is easy to reach and clearly visible from outside, with the different treatment of both sides being noteworthy. Visitors can observe the various building techniques by walking around the structure.
The structure received official recognition as a Registered Tangible Cultural Property in 1999, acknowledging its engineering capabilities. This recognition protects the structure from changes and preserves its technical and craftsmanship history.
