Hikosan Kaen Slope Car, Slope car at Hikosan Jingū, Soeda, Japan.
The Hikosan Kaen Slope Car is a cable-powered railway that transports passengers up the mountainside of Mount Hiko, providing access to gardens and observation points. The line climbs steeply and connects the lower grounds with the shrine and upper areas.
The cable car opened in October 2005 and improved access to the shrine, which traces its roots back to the year 546. This modern addition allowed many more people to visit the ancient sacred site more easily.
The slope car connects visitors to Hikosan Jingū, a shrine that draws pilgrims and people seeking spiritual experiences. The ride itself has become part of the temple visit, allowing people to experience the ascent as part of their journey.
The cable car runs daily and allows visitors to travel the steep slope without much physical effort. Current schedules and operating conditions are available through the official website.
The system uses a rare cable car design in Japan and offers views of the Tagawa region during the ascent. These views from the moving car are one of the less obvious rewards of the journey.
