大久保古墳群

The Okubo Kofun Group is an ancient burial site settlement in Saitama Prefecture with multiple mounds and residential structures from different periods. The grounds contain remains of homes, furnaces, and work areas that were uncovered through archaeological excavation.

The site originated in ancient times and served as a burial and residential place for many centuries. Archaeologists found evidence of activity spanning from the Kofun period through the Heian period.

The site shows how people lived and worked in ancient times at this location. You can see where homes stood and where craftspeople carried out their trades.

The site sits on university grounds and is partly accessible to visitors but requires advance arrangement. Comfortable shoes are helpful since the grounds are uneven and can become slippery when wet.

Excavations uncovered a spindle marked with an ancient village name and pottery vessels with early writing inscribed on them. These objects rank among the oldest evidence of written language at this location.
