Mibu Castle, Medieval castle remains in Mibu, Japan
The castle site features two sets of concentric moats with earthen ramparts and a central bailey that functioned as the main palace area.
Founded in 1469 by Mibu Tsunashige, the fortress remained under the control of the Torii clan through eight generations until the Meiji Restoration.
The museum within the castle grounds displays numerous artifacts from the Kofun Period, presenting the regional development through archaeological findings.
Visitors can access the castle site through local transportation options, with several preserved gates relocated throughout Tochigi Prefecture.
The castle structure differed from typical Japanese fortifications as it never included a central tower or defensive watchtowers in its design.
