Mibu, Historical town in Tochigi Prefecture, Japan
Mibu is a town in Tochigi Prefecture located about 90 kilometers north of Tokyo with flat terrain and rice paddies dominating much of the landscape. The area spreads across farmland and residential zones that maintain its rural character.
During the Edo period, Mibu served as a post station on a branch of the Nikko Kaido, an important trading route connecting Edo to the Nikko shrines. This role made the town a crossing point for pilgrims and travelers.
The toy museum in town displays Japanese dolls and model train collections that reflect the region's craft traditions.
The town is easily accessible by the Tobu Railway Utsunomiya Line, making it simple to reach from the surrounding region. Schools and shops are spread throughout the town, so it helps to find your bearings once there.
The area contains five national historic sites with ancient burial mounds preserved in the landscape from earlier periods. These kofun hills tell of a longer history that extends beyond the better-known Edo era.
