Mibu-Kurumazuka Kofun

Mibu-Kurumazuka Kofun is an ancient burial mound featuring a three-tiered dome structure spread across a large footprint. The site contains a burial chamber where remains were once placed, along with surrounding earthworks that formed its original boundaries.

This burial mound was built in the early 600s and served as the resting place for local leaders. It dates to a period when regional rulers acknowledged the authority of the central Yamato administration.

The mound's design reflects the importance placed on honoring the deceased within the community. Its construction reveals the values and beliefs people held about death and remembrance in ancient times.

The site is easily reached from Mibu Station on the Tobu Railway line and lies within a short walk of the station area. The mound and its surroundings can be explored freely, with clear views from the ground level around it.

The mound was originally surrounded by two concentric ditches that protected the burial place from disturbance. Stone fragments from the original covering still remain visible on the surface, revealing details of ancient construction methods.
