Myōō-in, Buddhist temple in Jūniso, Japan
Located on Mount Atago, Myōō-in features traditional Buddhist architecture, including an ornate main hall and a five-story pagoda measuring 29 meters tall.
Buddhist monks Kujō Yoritsune and Jōgō established the temple in 1235, making it an essential religious institution during Japan's medieval period.
The temple belongs to the Shingon Buddhist sect and forms part of both the Kamakura Thirty-three Kannon Pilgrimage and Thirteen Buddhist Sites of Kamakura.
Visitors can reach the temple grounds by taking a 15-minute bus ride from Fukuyama Station to the Myōō-in-mae stop, followed by a short walk.
The main gate, Hagi-Mon, stands out for its construction from a single piece of bush clover wood, demonstrating exceptional Japanese craftsmanship.
