Uminonakamichi Seaside Park, National Government Park in Higashi-ku, Fukuoka, Japan.
Uminonakamichi Seaside Park is a large recreational and nature park on a narrow peninsula in Higashi-ku, Fukuoka. It covers flower gardens, playgrounds, sports fields, a water park area, and a zoo spread across the grounds.
The land was first used as a Japanese military base and then occupied by American forces after World War II. It opened to the public in 1972, after the military left.
The park hosts a small zoo where visitors can see animals up close, making it a popular spot for families with young children. The flower fields draw different crowds depending on the season, with each bloom bringing its own mood to the grounds.
Bicycles are available to rent near the entrance, which is a practical way to move between the different zones without covering the full distance on foot. The grounds are large, so planning which areas to visit in advance helps make the most of a visit.
The park has around 2000 cherry trees whose branches form natural tunnels over the paths in spring. Just next to the park, Marine World is an aquarium with one of the largest collections of shark species in Japan.
