Kiyosato Plateau, Mountain plateau in Hokuto, Japan
Kiyosato Plateau is a highland in Yamanashi at elevation with views of mountain ranges and natural landscapes visible throughout the year. The area features meadows, forests, and seasonal flowers that change the landscape through each season.
Settlement began in 1909, but the area grew significantly in 1938 when residents from Tokyo relocated here. This migration shaped how the community developed and what it became.
The photography museum here hosts rotating exhibitions from April to November and draws visitors interested in visual arts. The institution shapes how people experience and appreciate contemporary photography in this mountain region.
The best access is via the Chuo Expressway from Tokyo, with a drive of around 90 minutes. A car is recommended since the plateau is best explored at your own pace.
Each April during Children's Day celebrations, colorful carp-shaped streamers fly above rice fields in a local festival. This traditional display gives the landscape a unique festive character during spring.
