Yatogi Falls

Yatogi Falls plunges 73 meters down a steep rock face in the Osuzu mountain range, creating a powerful cascade of white water. The falling stream splits into multiple channels as it drops, visible from several viewpoints along the hiking trail.

According to legend, Emperor Jimmu used the waters of Yatogi Falls to sharpen his spears and arrows during his eastern expedition. This mythical connection inspired the waterfall's name and established its place in Japanese historical tradition.

The waterfall belongs to Japan's Top 100 Waterfalls list and forms part of the Osuzu Falls group, designated as a national scenic location.

The hike to the falls takes roughly 30 minutes from the starting area and is generally easy to navigate with clear markers. Parking and restroom facilities are available at the trailhead, making it convenient for a short walk.

The falls are part of a group of roughly 30 cascades throughout the Osuzu region, each offering its own walk and setting. The area blooms with rhododendrons and Akebono azaleas during spring and early summer, adding color to the hiking experience.
