Mesahozuka Kofun

Mesahozuka Kofun is a keyhole-shaped burial mound located in Saito, Miyazaki Prefecture, with a rounded rear section and a rectangular approach area at the front. The site shows the typical architectural style of imperial tombs from its era.

This burial mound was built around 500 CE during the Middle Kofun period, representing an important phase in Japan's ancient past. The construction of such large structures shows the technical abilities and organizational power of that era.

The tomb's design shows how Japan's ruling families organized funerals and displayed their power through monumental structures. Walking around it, you can sense the importance these ceremonies held for the society of that era.

The site is located within the Saitobaru Kofun Cluster in Saito City and is easily accessible from the town center. Walking around the mound on the designated paths gives you the best view of its shape and scale.
