Château de Nouveau payé Shicheng

Niiro Castle stands on a strategic hilltop position with stone foundations and wooden gates protecting multiple enclosed areas at different elevations.

The castle served as a military stronghold during the 16th century conflicts between the Shimazu clan and their regional opponents in southern Kyushu.

The castle design incorporates traditional Japanese defensive architecture with multiple gates, baileys, and observation points following mountain contours.

Visitors can reach the castle ruins by taking a local bus from Miyazaki Station to the base of the mountain, followed by a 30-minute walk.

The castle maintains original stone walls from different construction periods, showing the evolution of Japanese fortification techniques through centuries.
