Kakumanbuchi, Raised bog in Fujimi-machi Akagisan, Japan
Kakumanbuchi is a raised bog located at 1360 meters elevation near Mount Akagi's peak in Gunma Prefecture. The wetland spans about 800 meters in circumference and centers on a natural pool surrounded by marsh and bog vegetation.
This raised bog developed over many centuries through natural geological processes on Mount Akagi's slopes. Over time it became an integral part of the mountain's ecosystem and has attracted nature enthusiasts and researchers for years.
Local people call this place 'Little Oze' because it resembles the larger wetlands in Oze National Park. The name shows how residents see it as a smaller version of a well-known natural area nearby.
A wooden boardwalk circles the central pool, allowing visitors to walk around the entire wetland on a path. The full circuit typically takes about 30 minutes and is easy to follow from start to finish.
During autumn the marsh grasses turn bright orange and create colorful patterns across the entire wetland surface. This seasonal shift makes visiting during this time of year especially worthwhile for photographers and nature watchers.
