Kannon-ji, Buddhist temple in Maibara, Japan.
The Kannon-ji temple complex includes a main hall, sanctuary gate, and bell tower, located at the base of a mountain in Shiga Prefecture.
After the temple's destruction by fire in 1504, only the statue of Bodhisattva Kannon remained intact, leading to its reconstruction in 1650.
The temple houses an Eleven-faced Bodhisattva Kannon statue from 1375 and displays works by Meikaku Kusakabe, a notable Meiji Period calligrapher.
The temple offers zazen meditation sessions where participants can choose their preferred seating arrangement while facing the meditation wall.
The temple garden combines both wet and dry elements, with moss-covered areas that transform into reflective ponds during heavy rainfall.
