Toyomibashi, Transport bridge in Nihonbashi district, Tokyo, Japan

The Toyomibashi bridge extends across the waterway with a rigid-frame structure that connects different sections of the metropolitan area in Tokyo.

The bridge was constructed between 1997 and 2004 to replace an older drawbridge that could only support vehicles weighing less than 14 tons.

The bridge represents Japanese engineering excellence through its structural design that accommodates both vehicle and pedestrian traffic in dense urban areas.

The bridge carries approximately 4000 vehicles daily and features specific gradients of 6.1 percent on one side and 5.1 percent on the other side.

Toyomibashi holds the distinction of being the largest rigid-frame bridge in Japan and ranks third globally in this structural category.
