Doshōmachi, Historic pharmaceutical district in Chūō-ku, Osaka, Japan.
The neighborhood features numerous pharmaceutical companies, traditional medicine shops, and historical buildings along narrow stone-paved streets in central Osaka.
During the Edo period, this district received official permission from the Tokugawa government to regulate medicine distribution throughout Japan, establishing its pharmaceutical legacy.
The Sukunahikona Shrine within the district honors both the Chinese medicine founder Shinno and Japanese medicine deities through yearly ceremonies.
The Doshomachi Pharmaceutical Museum, located on the third floor of Sukunahikona Shrine, displays medicine materials and artifacts from 10:00 AM to 4:00 PM.
Multiple pharmaceutical companies maintain their headquarters in this district, continuing a 300-year tradition of medicine trade in the same location.
