Nagai Uminote Park

Nagai Uminote Park is a recreational area built across rolling green hills in Yokosuka, featuring cultivated gardens and open spaces. The site offers views toward Sagami Bay and Mount Fuji on clear days from various vantage points throughout the grounds.

The site began as farmland and was transformed into a public recreation area, repurposing the landscape for community use. This conversion preserved the agricultural character of the terrain while opening it to visitors.

The rapeseed flowers that blanket the hillsides from December through March draw crowds to celebrate the Nanohana Festival, which has become a seasonal ritual for locals. This floral display shapes how people experience and gather in this landscape during those months.

The park can be reached via the Keikyu Electric Railway to Misakiguchi Station, where a direct bus service connects to the main entrance. The bus route is straightforward and provides easy access from the train station.

During summer, roughly 100,000 sunflowers fill the fields, creating a striking floral display that can be seen from multiple observation points across the grounds. This seasonal show draws photographers and nature enthusiasts throughout those months.
