Nihondaira Ropeway

Nihondaira Ropeway is an aerial tramway that carries visitors from a hilltop plateau up to a shrine through a five-minute ride. Each cabin holds 55 people and the cable spans approximately 1.1 kilometers.

The ropeway opened in 1957 as a way to connect visitors to historical sites. It has transported millions of people over the decades while serving as a gateway to these important locations.

The cable car connects two places of importance: a hilltop plateau and a shrine dedicated to a historical figure. Travelers experience the journey itself as a transition between the natural landscape and a sacred space.

The best time to visit is early in the morning when the view is clearest and crowds are smaller. Plan about 15 to 20 minutes for the full experience, including time to board and explore at the top.

On clear days, passengers can see Mount Fuji and Suruga Bay during the ascent, making the ride itself a scenic highlight. The changing seasons paint the hillside in different colors, so each visit offers a different view.
