Jōgan-ji, Buddhist temple in Yugawara, Japan
The temple stands on a high hill overlooking Sagami Bay and mountains, with a traditional Buddhist bell and wooden beam at its entrance.
Established eight centuries ago, Jōgan-ji served as the family temple of the Doi clan and underwent multiple changes in Buddhist school affiliations.
Seven wooden statues in the Shichikido hall represent Yoritomo and his samurai warriors, commemorating their historical contribution to the Minamoto lineage.
Located eight minutes on foot from JR Yugawara Station on the Tokaido Main Line, the temple welcomes visitors without charging admission fees.
An 800-year-old Chinese juniper tree, planted by Sanehira Doi, stands as the largest specimen of its kind in Kanagawa Prefecture.
