Museum of The Little Prince in Hakone, Biographical museum in Sengokuhara, Japan
The Petit Prince Museum in Hakone is dedicated to the life and work of French writer and pilot Antoine de Saint-Exupéry. Exhibition rooms display manuscripts, photographs and personal items, while gardens and buildings recreate southern French landscapes.
The institution opened in June 1999 for the centennial anniversary of Antoine de Saint-Exupéry's birth. Since then it has expanded its collections and established partnerships with cultural organizations dedicated to the author's legacy.
The museum offers guided tours and lectures in Japanese that introduce local audiences to Saint-Exupéry's literary work. Visitors can attend workshops that connect calligraphy and French literature.
The museum opens daily from 10 AM to 6 PM and can be reached by bus from Hakone-Yumoto or Gora stations. Spring through autumn offers the best conditions for visiting outdoor areas, where paths lead through themed gardens.
A rose garden carries the name of Consuelo de Saint-Exupéry, the Salvadoran artist and wife of the author. Manhole covers throughout the grounds show illustrations from the famous book and blend into the design of outdoor spaces.
