Mount Sengen

Mount Sengen is a volcanic peak reaching 802 meters in the Hakone region, marked by steep slopes covered in dense forests of Japanese Stone Oak and native vegetation. Multiple marked trails wind through different elevations, with rest areas and viewpoints that offer views across the surrounding landscape.

The mountain was formed by volcanic activity that shaped the Hakone region thousands of years ago, creating its current geological character. This volcanic past left the area with hot springs and distinctive rock formations that remain visible today.

The mountain holds spiritual meaning for the surrounding communities, with small shrines and prayer sites scattered along the hiking paths. These sacred spots blend into the natural landscape and reflect a long tradition of mountain reverence in the region.

The mountain is best visited during drier months wearing proper hiking shoes, as the trails are steep and can become slippery depending on the season. Starting early in the day gives you enough daylight to explore safely, and be prepared for changing weather conditions at higher elevations.

In spring, mountain cherry blossoms appear across the slopes in scattered patches, creating distinct color contrasts against the green forest. These flowering trees bloom across several weeks as visitors traverse the hiking paths.
