Mount Takanosu

Mount Takanosu is a 834-meter summit within the Hakone mountain range, surrounded by thick forest and crossed by multiple hiking trails. The terrain offers different route options that guide visitors through steep and gentle sections depending on the chosen path.

During the Edo period, the mountain served as a strategic observation point for merchants and officials to monitor trade routes in the region. This vantage position made it an important location for controlling movement across the area.

Local Shinto traditions incorporate Mount Takanosu into seasonal ceremonies, with residents gathering at specific locations to perform traditional rituals throughout the year.

The hiking trails can be accessed through the Hakone Tozan Railway system, with clear trail markings throughout. Visitors should wear sturdy footwear and bring weather-appropriate clothing, as conditions can change quickly on the mountain.

From the summit, visitors can see Lake Ashinoko, Mount Fuji, and natural steam vents rising from the volcanic ground all at once. This rare combination of views makes the visit unforgettable.
