RINKAN MALL, Einkaufszentrum in Japan
Rinkan Mall is a shopping center in Yamato, Kanagawa, made up of two single-story buildings connected by open walkways. A large supermarket called AEVI anchors the complex, alongside shops selling home improvement goods, electronics, clothing, and everyday household items.
The center opened in 2011 on land that previously held a factory. After the factory shut down, the site stayed vacant for a time before being redeveloped into a shopping destination for the local area.
The name Rinkan comes from the local district of Yamato where the center sits. Many people from the surrounding area come here regularly, treating it as a natural gathering point during their daily routines.
The mall is about a ten-minute walk from both Central Rinkan and South Rinkan train stations. Those arriving by car will find a large parking area on the ground level and on the rooftop of the main building.
The rooftop parking on the main building is uncommon for shopping centers in this part of Japan, where surface-level lots are the norm. This setup allows far more cars to park in the same footprint without expanding the overall ground area of the complex.
