Port of Sukumowan, Maritime port in Sukumo, Japan.
The Port of Sukumowan is a maritime facility in Sukumo that spreads across a large area at the southern opening of the Bungo Channel. This port functions as a key transportation hub linking southwestern Shikoku to marine routes for moving goods between regions.
The port was formed in 1984 through the merger of Katashima and Kozukushi ports. In 1986, it received designation as an important maritime facility of national significance.
The port area offers opportunities to discover local fishing methods and prepare regional dishes using fresh seafood from nearby waters.
Ferry services run regularly from this facility to various destinations such as Saeki in Oita Prefecture and Okino Shima. The location supports cargo movement between Kyushu and South Shikoku through marine transportation.
The facility includes a berth for 40,000-ton class vessels in the Ikeshima area. An adjoining industrial distribution park uses this capacity to support regional shipbuilding operations.
