Giant Coaster, Steel roller coaster at Fuji-Q Highland, Fujiyoshida, Japan.
The Giant Coaster is a steel roller coaster at Fuji-Q Highland park in Fujiyoshida with approximately 1,432 meters of track and a maximum height of 25 meters. It reaches speeds of around 80 kilometers per hour (50 miles per hour) and lasts about three minutes, with no inversions in its design.
The ride opened in 1966 as a world-record holder for the longest roller coaster track at that time. The record was eventually surpassed, and the attraction was closed in 1997.
The ride is part of a major amusement park in the region and reflects Japan's early interest in Western-style attractions. Visitors experience a snapshot of how such rides were once rare and exciting for the Mount Fuji area.
The ride features a chain lift system and safety requirements for all riders that are checked before boarding. Visitors should expect waiting times, especially on weekends and during peak seasons.
The ride was deliberately designed without inversions to focus on an extremely long track layout that was revolutionary at the time. This traditional approach set it apart from modern coasters that focused on loops and twists.
