Iksan Wanggungri Ocheungseoktap

Iksan Wanggungri Ocheungseoktap is a five-level stone pagoda made of sandstone that rises about 8.5 meters into the air. Each tier displays carefully carved stonework, built from precisely cut blocks that fit together without mortar.

This stone pagoda was built during the Goryeo Dynasty in medieval times. The ancient structure was later formally recognized and protected as a national treasure.

The tower shows how people in the Goryeo period shaped and fitted stone blocks together with great precision. You can see the care taken in each level through the detailed stone work, which reflects the craftsmanship valued at that time.

The site is located in Iksan and easily accessible since the city has good transportation connections to other regions. The location is straightforward to find, and you should wear comfortable shoes to explore the surroundings without strain.

When workers excavated the ground at this site, they found objects used in religious ceremonies hidden within or near the pagoda. These discoveries reveal how Buddhist practices were carried out in ancient times at this specific location.
