Keserwan-Jbeil, Administrative division in coastal Lebanon
Keserwan-Jbeil is an administrative region along the Mediterranean coast of northern Lebanon, connecting mountainous terrain with seaside areas. The governorate spans varied elevations and infrastructure connecting mountain settlements with coastal towns.
The region became a separate administrative unit in 2017 following its division from Mount Lebanon Governorate through Law 52. This administrative restructuring reflected changing governance needs in northern coastal territories.
The Cathedral of Our Lady of Lebanon in Harissa serves as a primary religious center for the Maronite community, which forms the majority here. The sanctuary draws pilgrims and shapes the spiritual life of the region.
Jounieh serves as the district capital and main transportation hub connecting the coastal road to Beirut with routes toward inland areas. The city is the easiest entry point for travelers navigating between coast and mountains.
The Jabal Moussa Biosphere Reserve within the governorate shelters rare plant species found nowhere else locally. Local farmers continue traditional cultivation methods that reflect ancient agricultural knowledge in the area.
