Jabal Moussa Biosphere Reserve, Biosphere reserve in Mount Lebanon region, Lebanon
The reserve covers 6500 hectares of land, ranging from 350 meters in the North-West to 1,700 meters in the South-East along the Mediterranean coast.
Roman Emperor Hadrian established boundary markers around the local forests, declaring them as imperial domain and leaving inscriptions on rocks throughout the area.
The seven villages surrounding the reserve maintain traditional practices through local festivals, agricultural activities, and community-based conservation initiatives.
Fifteen marked hiking trails traverse the reserve, with information centers providing guidance, maps, and educational materials about the local ecosystem.
The reserve houses 724 plant species, 25 mammal species, and 137 types of migratory birds, earning its designation as a Globally Important Bird Area.
