Jabal Moussa Biosphere Reserve

Jabal Moussa Biosphere Reserve sits in the Mount Lebanon region and spans an expansive terrain with varying elevations across its landscape. The land ranges from lower elevations in the northwest to higher mountain areas in the southeast toward the Mediterranean coast.

The area held significance in ancient times, with Roman Emperor Hadrian leaving boundary markers and rock inscriptions throughout the forest. These Roman traces show how the woodlands were recognized and protected long ago.

The seven surrounding villages practice traditional agriculture and hold local celebrations that connect people to the land and its rhythms. These communities shape how the reserve is cared for through their daily presence and knowledge.

The reserve features over fifteen marked hiking trails of varying difficulty levels that guide visitors through the area. Information centers are located at several points and provide maps and explanations about the local nature to help you navigate.
