Oukaïmeden

Oukaïmeden is a ski resort located in the Atlas Mountains with slopes ranging from about 2,610 to 3,260 meters in elevation. The area features multiple lifts and runs of varying difficulty for winter sports enthusiasts.

Skiing was introduced to the area in the 1930s by French expatriates, establishing the foundation for what would become a major winter sports destination on the African continent. This early development transformed the region into a lasting destination for winter sports.

Berber communities in the surrounding villages preserve their traditional way of living and welcome visitors to experience their customs firsthand. You can observe traditional building styles and taste regional mountain dishes prepared using methods passed down through generations.

The resort is only accessible during winter months when snow is present, typically from December through April. Equipment rental and ski instruction are available on-site, and it is advisable to check weather conditions before traveling.

The area is also recognized as an international climbing center, with over 1,000 documented bouldering locations for rock climbers. This variety makes it a year-round destination for different mountain sports, beyond just skiing.
