ضريح المعتمد بن عباد

The mausoleum of Al-Mu'tamid ibn Abbad stands in Aghmat and features a modest domed structure with Moroccan tilework and inscribed walls. The building contains three separate burial chambers for Al-Mu'tamid, his wife I'timad, and their son.

Al-Mu'tamid was the last ruler of the Abbadid dynasty of Seville before being forced into exile in Morocco. The mausoleum was constructed in 1970 to honor his remains and those of his family.

The inscriptions on the walls display verses written by Al-Mu'tamid himself, reflecting on his life between power and poetry. Visitors can read the personal words of a man who documented his own journey through words.

The site is located about 35 kilometers from Marrakech and is relatively straightforward to reach. Visitors should allow time to examine the inscriptions and architecture carefully, as the details reward close attention.

Al-Mu'tamid was not only a ruler but also a respected poet, and his own verses adorn the tomb walls. This blend of power and artistic expression remains visible in the structure itself.
