Dhorpatan Hunting Reserve

The reserve stretches across 1,325 square kilometers in western Nepal, featuring snow-capped peaks, forests, marshlands, and flat meadows at elevations up to 5,500 meters.

The Department of National Parks and Wildlife Conservation established this protected area in 1987 as part of Nepal's conservation strategy for high-altitude ecosystems.

The reserve borders communities of Magar, Thakali, and Gugung ethnic groups who maintain traditional practices and depend on the area for resources.

Visitors need permits from the Department of National Parks and Wildlife Conservation to participate in regulated hunting activities between February and October.

The reserve houses 58 vascular plant species, including 36 endemic flowering plants, along with snow leopards, red pandas, and 137 bird species.
