Myagdi

Myagdi, Administrative district in Gandaki Province, Nepal.

Myagdi is an administrative district in Gandaki Province that covers 2,297 square kilometers of varied terrain and elevations. The land ranges from tropical lowlands to high alpine areas near the Dhaulagiri mountain range.

Beni, now the administrative center, was previously the winter capital of Parvat Rajya and held an important position on the trade route between Tibet and Nepal. This strategic location shaped the district's development for centuries.

The Magar people, especially the Pun Magar group, make up about 39 percent of residents and keep their traditional customs alive in many villages throughout the district. Their way of life shapes local festivals, crafts, and daily routines across the communities.

The district is accessible via roads connecting from Pokhara, with the administrative town of Beni located at 899 meters elevation. The varied elevations mean weather and travel times differ significantly depending on which area you visit.

The district produced remarkable people including Tul Bahadur Pun, who received the Victoria Cross, and Min Bahadur Sherchan, who holds a world record for Mount Everest. These achievements reflect the strength and determination of people from this region.
