Annapurna base camp trek, Long-distance trekking trail in Annapurna region, Nepal.
The Annapurna Base Camp Trek is a long-distance trail in the Annapurna region that winds through bamboo forests, glaciers, and mountain passes. The route spans about 70 kilometers and climbs to 4,130 meters at the base camp.
The trail follows ancient trade routes that connected Nepal and Tibet through the Himalaya mountain range. These paths have shaped commerce and exchange between the regions for centuries.
Along the route, trekkers encounter Gurung and Magar communities who maintain traditional mountain lifestyles and visit Buddhist monasteries. Local teahouses serve as gathering places where travelers and residents share meals and stories.
Trekkers stay in basic teahouses distributed along the route and should visit between February to May or September to December. Sturdy footwear and weather protection are important, as conditions at altitude can change rapidly.
Natural hot springs at Jhinu Danda along the route offer thermal relief to trekkers during their journey. Sunrise views from Poon Hill reveal eight Himalayan peaks in a single panorama.
