Bat Cave, Limestone cave in Pokhara, Nepal.
Bat Cave is a limestone cave in Pokhara with a passage stretching roughly 150 meters and reaching heights of up to 15 meters in places. The underground space is home to several colonies of Horseshoe bats and can be explored through walking.
The cave was discovered in 1983 and later developed into a known tourist destination in the Kaski region. Since then it has grown in importance as a natural attraction.
The cave walls display carvings of Hindu deities, showing how local people have expressed their religious beliefs in this space over many generations. Visitors can see these artworks carved into the rock and understand what this place means to the community.
The entrance is easy to reach and the path through the cave is straightforward for most visitors. Bring a flashlight since it is dark inside and wear sturdy shoes for safe footing.
The exit requires climbing through a narrow opening at the top, and according to local belief only people free of sin can pass through. This idea gives the exit a spiritual meaning for visitors.
