Dodhara Chandani Bridge, Steel suspension footbridge in Kanchanpur District, Nepal
The Dodhara Chandani Bridge is a steel suspension footbridge crossing the Mahakali River in Kanchanpur District. Eight tall pylons support the structure, which carries pedestrians, bicycles, and motorcycles along its narrow steel deck.
The bridge opened in 2005 as the first permanent crossing between the villages of Dodhara and Chandani. Communities had previously relied on ferries or seasonal fords to connect across the river.
The bridge structure represents a crucial link between Nepalese communities, enabling regular social interactions across the Mahakali River throughout the year.
The bridge is open year-round and follows Nepal's left-hand traffic pattern. Visitors should note that the structure sways noticeably during strong winds or heavy rains.
Four suspension segments with wire ropes and metal rods connect to three anchor blocks positioned directly in the riverbed between the banks.
